We spent the entire weekend tiling the shower. While I'm at work typing this, Collette is at home finishing up the tiling. Tonight we finish putting down the wood flooring, and prepping the area for the new banister that we'll install tomorrow on camera. While we tiled I managed to sand most of the floor with equipment donated by Pete's Hardwood Flooring. When we sanded the downstairs we used a U-Sand, which is a newbie sander designed to avoid gouging your floor, but it takes forever to use. Pete's gave us a belt sander, which I was hesitant about because I was comfortable with a U-Sand, but after using the belt sander for a few minutes, it was quickly apparent that it took much much less time to use, and was easier on the body. The U-Sand disc's rotate in a circular motion, meaning it's hard to keep it steady and in a straight line and you had to fight it the whole time, which makes you really sore. I'm also cutting corners with the belt sander. The rep at Pete's recommended we start with a 34 grit paper, which would really grind the wood down, then move to a 60, then 80. I skipped the 34 due to time constraints and started with the 60, and it did a really good job and smoothing out the wood. So good in fact that we're not going to use the 80, which we both think is actually more course than the 60, which is odd because it's supposed to be finer.
At this point the both of us are praying for the 9th to come. We still have a bunch of work to do, and little time to do it. Not to mention we're tired as hell.
