First work shoot

Today we had our first working shoot with Amy. We got the sliding drawer for the laundry built in working, but still need to finish it off with the doors and trim. Same for the bookshelf. We also started the hard wood floor. We were hoping to get the window put in, but just didn't have time.

This morning I ran to Home Depot and rented a floor nailer. A pneumatic nailer with air compressor was going to be about $80 for a 24 hour rental. Considering we would only get 2-4 hours of nailing in, I opted for the manual nailer. When the crew arrived, with a behind the scene's carpenter, they had a sweet Ryobi miter saw, Rigid table saw, and a pneumatic nailer and compressor. You can see the photos of us starting the flooring. It's pretty dang easy to put down. We've done the laminate floor before, and this is the same thing, but with nails. The pneumatic nailer is really easy and is twice as fast as the manual one. After the crew left Collette and I laid down another 2 feet of floor or so in about 2 hours with the manual nailer. It's going to take us awhile to finish it because the boards are 1.5 inches, which means more cutting measuring, and nailing than most wood floors.

I also took about 6 minutes of video of Collette working with Amy and building the drawer for the built in. You can see Andy, the behind the scenes carpenter, helping out. It's kind of funny to see how it's filmed, and will be interesting to see it cut together. I had very little wood glue in which to glue the drawer together before nailing it, so we used some construction adhesive that the crew had, which was either old, or frozen, because it didn't go down very smooth. So they paused filming, milked my almost empty wood glue bottle to finish, then moved the wood glue off scene to make it look like they finished it with the construction adhesive. There was also drama with the nail gun.... they had trouble putting the nails in straight into the 1/2" MDF board and the nails kept coming out the side, so there was a bit of video magic going on and a bit of action that probably will be cut out to make it look like they didn't screw up as much as they did.
