Demolition into 5th day

As I mentioned yesterday, Richard needed the space below the floor exposed to run piping through. All this extra work is due to the fact that we're putting the vanity on the opposite side of the room in which the plumbing wall is on, and to get the proper slope for the drain pipe we need to utilize the space created by the elevated bathroom floor, and the space below the real floor all the way to the lathe and plaster ceiling of the first floor. I spent another 2 hours Monday night taking out two long floor planks. I had to drill holes in between the joists, then use a reciprocating saw to cut the board into small pieces and break each piece out. I couldn't pry them out b/c the planks were joined together with a tongue and groove. Fun times. The good news is that Collette and I still got to watch Heros last night, which I was afraid we'd miss. Not that we'd truly miss it because we have Tivo, but that we might have to wait an extra day to watch the latest episode *gasp* the horror! Highlights from this passed weekend:

• I had to use a car jack to lift the tub off of the base it was glued to, which was in turn glued to the plywood floor.
• There were 4 layers of plywood underneath the tub to elevate it. All of which were glued and screwed together. I think that was a little unecessary considering the tub was mounted on a wood frame. Why didn't they just build the frame a couple inches lower and not have to elevate it with plywood?
• I got to cut that big ugly tub in half.

On to some excellent news. Our 1.5" wide genuine unfinished Red Oak flooring is scheduled for delivery on the 17th. That's right. It looks like we're getting our flooring for a very discounted price. And by discounted I mean donated. My only concern now is that we'll have to unhook 3 radiators, and possibly extended the piping a bit to account for the extra height created by the flooring. I'm reeeallly looking forward to that part.
